To be fair, the midweek day off alleviates that a bitPidleypoo wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 21:48But drastically more during the week.Perseus wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 21:12There will be drastically less walking for anyone working on a Saturday, either indoor or outdoor, unless you get a duty that is full of houses with no vehicle access anywhere near them. For example, I'm usually 12-13 miles a day on a shared van. Same shared van with parcels only - 3-4 miles at a push.Pidleypoo wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 20:59Non drivers will be walking further and for longer even under the method you’ve suggested here.Perseus wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 20:54If someone is working indoors on a Saturday, or part of a 2 in a van out doing parcels then they would both come with a day off during the week, (eg Wednesday) thus breaking the Mon-Fri slog and help with fatigue. No?Pidleypoo wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 20:40The union should just come out and say that they’re going to throw non-drivers under the bus.
If the only way to reduce fatigue for them is to be indoors on a Saturday ( which will never ever happen ) then why are they suggesting that they could be outdoors on Saturdays also ? Absolutely gormless .
Not a very efficient way of doing things, but surely better than a Mon-Fri walking role doing 2-3 days mail every day?
The union have already identified that it’s a big problem in regards to fatigue for non drivers.
You’d still be walking miles with 2 of you doing parcels on a Saturday.
In all honesty, the only solution is for them to be indoors on a Saturday but that simply won’t happen and the union know that so they should just admit that.
They’re forcing non-drivers out of a job through exhaustion. It really is that simple.

Its what they are not telling you
How much otime is being used in the pilot offices
The extra numbers of staff are not displaced so are also being used to supplement the workload
On the mon and tue call rates are over 90%
Not including d2ds

You can see how exactly how it's going to work from the trials.
In some cases it works and some it doesn't.
It will be down to local offices , managers and Reps to find a 'local' solution and that will be the end of that.

Reducing costs
Adding walks
Reducing staff levels.
Those three things don't add up

This propaganda has only been put out because Martin Walsh reacted to workers fury by blurting out on a CWU live that a 'warts and all' communication would be put out LAST Monday. This is not a warts and all communication because the CWU would never share all the information with workers. That would make people like Martin and the rest of the bag avoiders powerless. They've spent decades protecting their positions and withholding information.
Everyone knows the pilots are a fraud. They don't even meet the basic claim of being an alternative day delivery model. How ever Martin Walsh puts it he can't deny the truth - it's less of us, doing more.
The basic principle of trade unionism is that we are only as strong as our weakest. The constant singling out of workers who have different contractual arrangements is disgusting. It's become a witch hunt and it appears Martin's next trick will be to name every one who in his words 'doesn't drive' There are many workers who have different contractual arrangements. So it's those with no obligation to drive who get singled out first. Whose next? The workers covered by the equality act?
The CWU is collaborating in the destruction of our jobs in the pursuit of profit. We must not help the likes of Martin by colluding in marginalising workers who have contracts that don't fit Martin's shoddy delivery method. Tell the CWU to get stuffed. Stand up for workers who have different contracts. Today it's the 'non drivers'. Tomorrow it's the injured. Next week it's you.

Do you mean 'some union reps dont drive because they're full time release and avoid working for a living?'.

Re: LTB 075/25 - Update on USO Pilot Sites
It would be nice for the union if they actually asked non drivers what option they would like to do on a Saturday if they are required to work rather than looking into Electric Trikes Bikes and HCTs, there are no HCT duties in my office and as I use a LWT on my delivery I won't be wanting to use a Bike or a Trike either.
