Politicians can be easily persuaded to change their minds with the offer of a well paid advisory position within the company, all well within the rules of coursemanfromuncle wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 19:49Shall have to see what happens under Labour. Be interesting.

Shows, even an arsehole can get it right once. Law of averages I suppose.
Either way it’s quite funny.
And then he will delete his WhatsApp messages and waffle on about something else.
RM will get what they want eventually.

Doesn’t look like the company will have anymore luck with Labour either.
We’ll see.

This is Simon's great achievement - he really did vanquish the union. Who needs a no-strike clause in agreements anymore when the union's capacity to take industrial action is blown? The leadership wouldn't dare and, having been marched up the hill and back down again, the membership doesn't care.
The machine stops.

The union are right to oppose this due to the inevitable job cuts that will follow, but purely from an objective point, I do agree that in this day and age the 6 day service is no longer required. Call rates on a Monday and Tuesday now are barely 20% in terms of letters on my walk. I'd be surprised if they're 40% even on a Wednesday. Our second mech 'tray' is now a tiny bundle. One tray has 5 or 6 different walks second mech now, with an elastic band round each bundle.

Re: CWU Update on Of Com Report
I doubt many of us would oppose them dropping Saturday letters but they just don’t want to stop at Saturday they want to drop 2 extra days to which would mean heavy workloads everyday of the week.Seymour Buts wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 22:00The union are right to oppose this due to the inevitable job cuts that will follow, but purely from an objective point, I do agree that in this day and age the 6 day service is no longer required. My new build estates have houses I don’t deliver to for weeks and weeks.Seymour Buts wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 22:00The union are right to oppose this due to the inevitable job cuts that will follow, but purely from an objective point, I do agree that in this day and age the 6 day service is no longer required. Re: CWU Update on Of Com Report
I deliver to a large new build estate and they get plenty mail on some days and f**k all on others. Same as any other street really. Packets through the roof though. Demographic tends to be young families who do allot of online shopping.LouBarlow wrote: ↑23 Jan 2024, 05:34My new build estates have houses I don’t deliver to for weeks and weeks.Seymour Buts wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 22:00The union are right to oppose this due to the inevitable job cuts that will follow, but purely from an objective point, I do agree that in this day and age the 6 day service is no longer required. That would be the 2C extract system in action. On inward sort plans any 2C items that aren't due for delivery that day get extracted and then run with the wave 1 the next day. Some batches I can get the bundles for all the walks into 1 tray.Seymour Buts wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 22:00Our second mech 'tray' is now a tiny bundle. Re: CWU Update on Of Com Report
Regardless of everyone's views be it ofcom government union management, the company cannot continue to make huge losses! Something will have to give and a move to lesser delivery days for mail will come, just a case of when and in what form. As allways will suit some but not others, but will mean a rather drastic reduction in staff. Just my view.

A company/ business doesn't have an absolute right to make a profit year on year regardless, just because it is a company/business.adamanti wrote: ↑23 Jan 2024, 14:22Regardless of everyone's views be it ofcom government union management, the company cannot continue to make huge losses! Why should a Product Development Manager get an ongoing increasing salary if they are not coming up with initiative and profitable new ideas.? Not loss leaders like free collection, there's no such thing.
Why ? should a CEO be paid Hundreds of thousands of pounds or Millions for simply slashing a wage bill by ridding itself and reducing the wage or job of its lowest paid workers. No efficiency no vision, Whilst surely seeing that the management structure and wage is the the drain on finance, not earning their crust.
Why should Royal Mail be paying Planners a high wage to plot a delivery route, when a postie can do it better faster and smarter....

Re: CWU Update on Of Com Report
This gets more bizarre by the day , Martin Walsh on the radio today saying how we can play a role in social care moving forward. He also says union are up for a discussion regarding dropping the Saturday but not reducing to 3 or 4 day service.
