I think a lot of people are misreading this.
Any new starts will be based on a 40hr contract not given a 40hr contract.
That's where the lower hourly rate comes from.
£24,170 a year outside of London is what we're currently on.
The new starts would have to work 40hrs to get it, we would only
work 37hrs.

I hope that all new board members, directors and future CEO and Chairman will also be on lower wages coupled with longer hours! Thought not!

So new part timers are also liable to be on the lower hourly rate, although that could back far on RM as it they then work the usual 25+ overtime they'll probably be earning more than they presently do. Perhaps if RM made it sound attractive, rather than the opposite it may have more appeal.

If recruiting new starts on 40hr contracts with inferior pay is allowed to sneak through, eventually there will come a time when most of us have left the business or retired, and RM will try to ‘harmonise’ pay rates by slashing the pay of those still on our current terms. How do you think those who have by then have been on inferior pay rates will react when asked to vote for strikes to protect the earnings of those on the higher rates??

For me it was always the you are just a part timer from full time staff, this expalins why u should accept being shafted for your rota day off being a tuesday every week, or why whatever round was the heaviest that day was the round you would be doing or why you had to work every saturday. I do accept seniority is just part of the business but added to the full time part time devide it creates a two tier workforce. There not saying the will be 40 hour contracts, only that pay will be based on 40 hours, meaning that the pay rate per hour is even lower. Also they won't get delivery supplement, and what about shift allowances and how much pension contributions will RM be making into the lower paid staff. Shower of s**t.

Good luck with asking for support if people are already working 5/7 days, moved at short notice, no idea what shift they are on next week, inferior pay, inferior pension and also having just done 2 years of 3-9pm shifts during covid.
