Update on talks at Acas today
We met as planned at Acas today. We gave the CWU a revised pay for change offer and talked them through it. We have encouraged the CWU to study it carefully and consider the offer.

We are pausing to reflect and look forward to discussing further later this week. This is the best offer we can make and subject to agreeing a programme of change with the CWU.

Plus, a non-pensionable lump sum payment of 2% of this year’s pay:
- In delivery, this payment would be paid upon the successful implementation of a local revision.

Worth how much exactly?.

for someone on FT its around a weeks pay - also sure the tax man will want there share.

Doesn't matter how many hrs your on, it's still a week worth , 2% is 2% .

CWU need to up the ante here, give the f***ers a few 3 day strikes, Monday< Wednesday and Friday, then Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday the following week, give them no breathing room to recover, on top of this we need to be serious about no overtime and working to rule, if your van has a faulty indicator bulb, it doesn't go out, if a brake light is out it doesn't go out, trolleys every day, return to the office to use the toilet or have your break, every single little problem take it to the DOM, overwhelm them with problems however trivial. Make them work for their money.

When ironically, we were striking *because* he mentioned bringing these things through IA. (And Pay).

It’s been a levelling down agenda, cost-cutting exercise, to attempt to maximise profits for shareholders since day one. Everything else is collateral to his actual goal.

It’s no better than the 1st offer. Interesting that they plan on opening every office on the next strike days, they must think they will get enough people to cross. I doubt it somehow.

I don't. It's what will sink this strike. We've had very few crossing thus far as doing so would mean driving miles and miles making it a pain, and probably fairly costly with the current price of fuel. I'd be very surprised if we don't get many more crossing now.

9% sounds nice until you break it down, it’s less than 3.5% for this year (2% from April already imposed plus 5/12ths of 3.5%, assuming that we agreed it straightaway) a one off 2% bung and 1.5% next year (let’s just hope that inflation is negative next year). No thanks Simon, try listening harder.

Read what the offer is- the 2% bung is conditional upon a "successful revision", whatever that is.
And doesn't flow through to following uears.
This is a 7% offer over 2 years, with ambiguous conditions.
We've already had 2%, so work out how much extra you'll get after tax, over 2 years at 5%.
It's peanuts.

April 2022 - March 2023 2% imposed + 1.5 % (the 3.5% is only payable for 5 months of this year assuming immediate acceptance)
April 2023 - March 2024 1.5%.

Apologies- I didn't mean I was under the impression you thought it was a good deal.
I was more thinking people shouldn't see 9% and base opinions on that.
You're right, it's not even 7% over 2 years.
It was early on in the thread anyway, and I think we now know that people are generally appalled by it, and more importantly the union sound like it doesn't think it's anywhere near enough.

I don't want anymore strikes because it will just be more losses and we are not going to get what we want except crush the business and get even less. I like my job and will rather stick with it even with the small changes:
No more compulsory Sundays - that was always going to be a part of the negotiation IMO - the Sunday service is not that important at this stage and they have enough volunteers in addition to those on new contracts or Sundays exclusive staff...
Later starts - accomodation of those with severe needs was something the Union should have gone for instead of saying No to that and other things
Sick and absence - no brainer; it had to change and this change is minimal
SISO and Annualised hours was also not going to be a deal breaker - Royal Mail can still monitor how much work is done and cut down on overtime. Also, they now allow Posties to leave mail and parcels; so it was never going to be work till it is finished - we are not slaves!
The rest is up to them how they run the business - it is a private company not a public service anymore!

* I will accept this new deal but the 3.5% has to be backdated to April - that should be what our Union should be fighting for not more strikes and loss of wages and business
