Hello
Basically I dropped off a parcel, on behalf of a relative, to the post office. The post office person thought the first number of the second half of the postcode was an 8 (it sort of looked like an 8) but in fact it was a 3. So he entered xxx 8xx instead of xxx 3xx on the proof of postage receipt.
I’m not bothered about the receipt, as we won’t need to use it unless the item goes missing. But will the parcel get there ok if the name and address are ok, but the sorting office also read the 3 as an 8??? The rest of the postcode is correct - just that one number. It’s not a high value item, but obviously we want it to arrive ok. Thank you.

Fluffy
It should be ok, as it was the second half of the postcode.
If it was the first half then be worried.
If you are one number or letter out it can send your item off to the wrong part of the country.
Examples:
SM1 - Sutton
SN1- Swindon
SL1- Slough
SW1- London
ST1- Stoke
SP1- Salisbury
SS1- Southend
I see customers make typos like this all the time & then moan their items never arrive.

BH instead of RH and vice versa (sometimes it might be down to bad handwriting)aiden01 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2021, 21:33See a lot of these esp for birmingham that should be b 1 but lots of people put bt1 or dorset dt but put bt.scooby69 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2021, 19:57Fluffy

Yes.
But bad handwriting leads to our post office counter cousins imputing the wrong postcode on to parcels QR codes.
Hence why it gets sent the wrong part of the country.
Customers need to put the correct postcode & clearly write it!

Re: Unclear postcode - will item arrive ok??
It shouldn't delay it at all, the 2nd half of the postcode is immaterial when sorting at the Delivery Office, and if it's written correctly on the parcel it won't delay it at all, normally.Fluffy99 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2021, 19:45Hello

In 99.99% of cases, the receipt having the wrong postcode has no effect on the parcel, unless the address or postcode on the item is also wrong.
