How reliable is Royal Mail Tracked 24/48?

Post by royal37 »

Hi,

I live in an area that has recorded delays in the local delivery office due to COVID/snow. Someone had dispatched an item to me via 1st Class Signed For over a week ago and it was found in Ireland...weird. Another parcel of mine is due to be dispatched via Royal Mail Tracked 24 tomorrow and I’m wondering whether this service is more reliable than Signed For? Will it actually get delivered next day? I really would rather not lose another parcel!

Any advice from posties and other RM workers/knowledgeable RM customers would be greatly appreciated to put me at ease (I’m hoping)! Thanks

Tracked tend to be given priority over signed for.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The fact that signed for is not a tracked item and T24 though not a guaranteed next day service is, does make it more reliable.

However, the signed-for item going to Ireland (as opposed to Northern Ireland) was probably caused by human error and that can affect any stream, but is relatively rare. If it got sent to Northern Ireland, that would mean something else.

Thanks for this TrueBlueTerrier, the sender informed me that my parcel is “stuck at a returns centre in Ireland” so that could possibly mean Northern Ireland and he’s just not specifying. Surely both would be odd because both the sender and I live in England? Thanks

It might be at the National Returns Centre in Belfast if there was no return address on the packet. If a delivery hasn't been possible for some reason e.g an incorrect address or an address label has come off then if there is no return address on the packet (may have been combined with the address label) it will be sent to Belfast to see if they can find out who sent it or who the recipient is by opening the packet up.

It might be showing up on tracking because the signed for label is still attached and has been scanned. It's probably worth asking the sender to contact Royal Mail with the tracking number and the address details so if it is at the National Returns Centre it will tell them where to send it.
