Looks like it was sent via Special Delivery so it should be scanned along the way, all the way back to the sender

I’m not sure what the stop sign means. It makes me wonder if the tracking has ended?
It doesn’t say where it is held at the moment. I appreciate that it is Christmas time.

Its probably being held in the DO. Whilst a special delivery will be scanned as it passes through the system, once the original delivery has been attempted the service is complete and the return process has no time limit.
However, Special Deliveries this week have gone through the roof so it is possible that the Mail Centre has segregated it and are concentrating on delivering the Christmas post, and leaving the returns to senders till after.
Here's a handy hint if you use an android device download the royal mail app and enter the tracking number. Then as it progresses through the system you will get notifications via your phone.

Are there really huge volumes of SD in the network this week? I know the guarantee has been suspended for items posted today
