"Signed " but not delivered

Post by RobGA »

A parcel was supposedly delivered to me yesterday and signed for. I did not receive it.
The signature is XP1. I realise that currrently RM are signing on customer's behalf but aren't they supposed to do this in the recipient's presence ? It's not left with neighbours , there is no safe place on my property - access only via front door which opens onto street
FAQ on RM website unhelpful , this issue does not seem to be covered

"Signed " but not delivered

The correct procedure we have been told in our delivery office is that the recipient should be asked if they are happy for the postie to sign on their behalf. The postie inputs the surname of the person, and signs as "XP1". That is how we have been told, but reading on here it seems other offices may be slightly different.

As of 26 May it should/may be possible for you to view the delivery location when checking on the usual Royal Mail webpage. The option to show a map may be available - I say may because I checked on a couple of items I delivered yesterday, one was on there and one wasn't. If you are able to check that you may at least know whether the item was scanned/delivered somewhere near to you. Either way, if you don't have it you will have to raise a complaint through Royal Mail.

You're correct, RobGA.

The postie needs to be sure the customer is home to receive the item before proceeding with the signature on the PDA. Or a neighbor can accept the item and the postie will use the neighbor's name then sign "XP1", but only if the PDA does not show the Neighbor option as not applicable.

If neither is possible, the postie should slip a Sorry We Missed You card in the customer's letterbox and return the item to the delivery office for collection or a redelivery attempt upon the customer's request.
