I think the time you're going to be waiting to receive your item is going to be measured in terms of weeks rather than days by the
time it's flown into the UK (it might fly via another country for a start) and then passed through UK customs (where it might
be subject to a customs surcharge - which you will have to pay before it is released for the final delivery mile).
I did indeed mean April thank you for correcting me, I had a late night last night and hadn't drank enough coffee before making the post. I was up late watching 2 planes head for the UK which one could of potentially had my package and about an hour and half into one of the flights after it was about to go over the sea it got diverted back to the airport, so as you can imagine I struggled to wind down and sleep after that.
I will be happy to pay a customs charge, it is only a cardboard checkers board and pieces, what do you think the likely hood is that i'll be charged for this? I paid around £60 for it (which includes the shipping)

USPS is one of the few companies that scan some products at every point in the Network.
So it's possible they scanned it when it left the Chicago Mail Centre, then scanned it again when the placed it on the aircraft (or passed it to Customs/Homeland Security) at the Airport itself.
I was thinking this too but I signed up for email updates and they both tell me that my package departed the airport.
The first email I got
Your item departed a transfer airport in O'HARE INTERNATIONAL, CHICAGO, UNITED STATES on May 6, 2020 at 5:59 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.
Then the next day I was checking Royal Mail's tracking to see if it had received a scan to say it was here and then I got another email this time saying
Your item departed a transfer airport in O'HARE INTERNATIONAL, CHICAGO, UNITED STATES on May 7, 2020 at 9:28 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination.
Which is just very confusing.
