Hi all,
I've read here: https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app ... /related/1 that mail cannot be redirected from student halls of residence. Yet the company my university has employed to manage the on site accommodation have recommended that students get their mail redirected when they vacate their accommodation for the summer. So I would like to know whether redirection is possible for student halls addresses.
In relation to this, I am expecting a package from China relating to an online order I made a while ago but was only dispatched on 6th April 2020 due to the pandemic. I'm only really seeking out redirection for this item as other than polling cards I don't get any letters to my university address. Is redirection even possible for international parcels? As if it isn't there's not much point as after my accommodation licence finishes the uni will most likely refuse the packages with no way of me getting the red "something for you" card to my knowledge as my accommodation have taken in every package I've received so far.
I'm currently due to leave my accommodation on 16/05/2020, but whether lock-down lifts could change that, so I'll need to get my redirection sorted ASAP if it's actually necessary.
#ClapForPosties thanks for your hard work delivering my mail.

You can redirect mail that comes from overseas if it is coming via Royal Mail. Nothing about that on the list of exclusions you linked too. I have had cards from overseas redirected to me.
If you are planning to redirect for the sake of a single parcel, you might want to check that RM will be the carrier at this end. It isn’t a given.
At my old halls, mail for about 500 people was delivered to a single point (the porter’s lodge). I can see why it would be impractical for RM to separate out one person’s mail for redirection in that circumstance.

It was sent via China Post initially, so I would assume that Royal Mail is doing the delivery once it has reached the UK. I did also receive a text from RM saying they'll let me know when it's in the UK and they have it for delivery. I'll enquire tomorrow with the management of my halls for the sake of a single parcel as do have friends who will be on campus all summer who could collect it for me if the uni won't hold it if I'm gone. Worst case scenario I'll have to drive down to collect it from the delivery office when it turns up if the reception team at halls refuses it.
