In progress fraud and Special delivery package

Post by Wendym »

Hello, I am reaching out for specific help as I am the victim of an in progress fraud.

The short version, On Tuesday I sold a phone on Gumtree and received a (fake) PayPal email confirming funds would be released when I provided a tracking number.
On Wednesday I posted the package Special Delivery, got home to realise the PayPal was fake and then spent most of yesterday speaking with action fraud / Royal Mail security / Royal Mail customer helpline/ local PO
I have a crime reference number

Today I went to the PO and they called Royal Mail Security again, who have said that if local police can get to Clevedon West End Post Office today (before 2) they may be able to release the parcel to them... otherwise the package will go into the system and I would need to contact the Met as the package is destined for London N22

As an aside the house number and postcode do not match, but it went through at the post office. Royal mail help have said it may get scanned and returned to sender if it were to get to the N22 sorting office.....

I feel very stupid for having been so gullible, and am at my wits end to know what to do next. I will try to get hold of the local police, but not sure if they have the manpower to deal with this today...
If you can give me any advice I would appreciate it very much.
