So I purchased an ebay item on the 16th Feb. 2nd class signed for.
3 weeks later and nothing. So to be sure it wasn't sitting in my local delivery office I put in a 'sorry we missed you' claim
On 8th of April my lovely postman told me they had located it it under the wrong postcode in Sheffield and I had to call to release it.
Turns out instead of SL4 2EQ my postcode was registered as SI4 2EQ (I for Igloo). Which doesn't exist.
When I called royal mail about this the man told me I couldn't 'release it' and that it was to be sent back to the sender. Annoying but fine.
However 12 more days have passed and the sender tells me he hasn't recieved it. I know the thing to do is claim a refund on ebay and have him claim via the royal mail but i still want the item! I called again and the guy said he could be of no help due to it not being fully tracked and to make a claim.
Can someone elaborate on the it being found in sheffield part? Why isn't it being delivered to me considering it is obvious SI4 is indeed SL4. Why has it been located in sheffield yet there is no record of this and the only thing I can do is hope it finds it's way to the sender. I am very concerned it will not be sent to the sender and it will be lost.

It may have gone to Sheffield because someone thought it might be a Sheffield postcode S14 - although 2EQ does not exist.
When Sheffield got it, it probably went around the different offices there are probably upwards of 20 delivery offices.
Technically if the address can't be found it is "Killed off" and returned to sender, however, RTS items according to RM have had their service so they won't prioritise it, especially under the current pandemic.
Royal Mails call centre could have taken the details if you could have described the package as if it not returned to the sender it goes to a special office in belfast who will be able to see the details of any queries relating to an address/tracking number.

Thanks, it was interesting my postman managed to track it to sheffield and inform me of this. Though he told me I had to call to release it. Do we know what he meant by that as customer services was no help.
