Is there anywhere online that has the official guide on what colour sacks to use, in particular RED and GREEN? I've been told so many conflicting things over the past few years that I'm thoroughly confused. I did try asking PPI Business Support but they couldn't give me a definite answer. I did search through the existing threads but the last thread was back in 2013.

Our unit uses red for letters grey for packets and green for specials dnt know if this helps

that really helps, does tally up with what I last asked my postman. I was never told about the RED sacks for letters that I used to put them in the GREY sacks. Then noticed some weren't being delivered so now I just put them into the post box, I only do around 10 - 15 a week.

I've always wondered why Royal Mail just didn't make some coloured reusable plastic tags with the actual lettering on them and then people just use any mail sack...must be a logical reason why

The red sacks were supposed to be for mail with stamps on, rather than franked or ppi mail. Also red sacks were used for collections from pillar/post boxes.
Green sacks were used for registered/special delivery mail.

They still are. @mrpugster do you get your postings collected from you, if you do ask the person collecting mail from you, what the local colour code is

I drop them off a the local post office.

I've started to post a fair bit of international tracked packaged as well and have been putting them into GREEN sacks, so far none have gone missing.
