Weird Parcel tracking from US to UK.

Hi,

I have an order that is being shipped from California to the UK, I've ordered from the same place before and had no problems.

However with this order the tracking information is very weird. It looks to me like the parcel has been shipped to Japan, then returned to the US and now back to Japan before disappearing off tracking for two weeks. My worry is that there is conflicting information on the USPS parcel tracker and the Japan post service. USPS shows that the parcel has returned from Japan and been flown onward from there, however the Japan post tracking does not show the parcel returning to Japan for a second time.

The parcel tracking No. is LH042599554US

Does anyone know why this may have happened or where the parcel is likely to be at the moment, as i assume it has not arrived in the Uk or at least not with customs.
One minor worry that i have is that when the tracking info is entered into the royal mail website it comes up as "The system is currently unable to confirm the status of your item with reference LH042599554US" is there an obvious reason for this ?

I would contact the sender first.

Being sent to Japan instead of the UK can happen, but its relatively rare, in fact, it happening twice is a near impossibility.

Normally in the UK if we got a package sent here instead of, say Italy, we would forward it on to Italy. I would hope the Japanese would do the same.

Double check the address with them.

You could also try contacting USPS their Customer service is on twitter @USPSHelp.

I have checked the tracking on various websites, UK, Japan and US and I have never seen such a confused mess

Hi True Blue Terrier.

I have contacted the seller and he confirmed with me that he has selected the correct postal address (and Country..).
One thing that the seller did say that it was being shipped the cheapest way possible. Could it be that this item is going to be shipped by sea ?

That is the cheapest so yes, but.

We would call it Economy Surface, but it wouldn't be tracked.

As yours appears to be tracked I wouldn't think he meant the cheapest option per se, but the cheapest tracked service - that wouldn't be by surface though, it would be by air.

Ok thank you for that, again the seller has sent me this when i asked regarding the tracking of the order :

"There is no proper tracking in place. We are using the customs number to follow the progress. Like all packages I send over seas I ship the cheapest way possible because 99.9 % of the time that is what is asked of me."

Not sure whether this adds anything other than the item is being tracked by customs No.

I never knew that customs can track packages - they certainly don't make it public knowledge if they can.
