Door to Door

Post by TGBANDC »

Door to Door seems to be a contentious issue on this forum!

I use D2D quite a lot (sorry!) and I just wanted to get some feedback from the people who actually prepare/deliver them.

Is nesting a common practice? How strictly are the guidelines about this followed in different delivery offices?

Also, do you often see leaflets that clearly were meant to be delivered in a different area?

These are the main complaints I get from my clients about D2D. Reason for the second question is I'm trying to work out if whether our printers are just rubbish and can't manage to pack leaflets correctly, or whether there is any possibility of mis-sorting at the WBCs?

Many thanks in advance!

Interesting to see a post from someone uses the D2D service. They are indeed a very contentious subject so I shall attempt to not start a riot.
I don't think there is that much nesting of D2D items to be honest. In fact with most D2D items it would be physically impossible to try and nest them. The usual way to prep D2Ds is to assemble a set in your hand with the smallest item on the left going up to the largest on the right. They are then fed into a slot on the frame. The worst problem at this point is if a slot is used for two addresses and there are six D2D items for that week. My frame doesn't have these double slots but some delivery offices do have them.
I can't remember the last time we had D2D items arrive at our delivery office that were destined for another office. It does happen occasionally that not all the contracted D2Ds arrive at our office in time but not that often. I think on the whole there aren't too many errors with that part of the operation.
The least favoured design types of D2D by posties in no particular order are:
Low grade A4 single sheet of paper.
Half A5 sized flimsy glossy single sheet of paper. (Molly Maid!)
Polythene clothes collection bags. (My personal hated one.)
Usual pizza leaflet design with fold that buckles and bends in the frame slots.
Envelopes with additional items in them such as pens, badges, wooden crosses, coasters etc.

Most favoured D2D design types in no particular order:
A5 sized envelopes.
Third of A4 sized envelopes.
A5 sized single or double/multiple sheets of paper.

At one time Postie's were paid between 1.67p and I think 4.25p per D2D item. Nowadays we don't get paid those amounts per item. What we do get is disputed and I am not starting the discussion again here........ :no no Some would say that £20 of our wages are a supplement paid for doing D2Ds but many others say this isn't true and we deliver them for nothing. But yet again I stress I am not starting that discussion again here!
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

I absolutely detest these things, but then again, I haven't had the pleasure of delivering charity bags (sounds ridiculous!)

I agree normal envelopes are preferred, however, there is something that annoys the hell out of me. An ordinary envelope, bill size, in fact could look like a bill, and EXACTLY the same envelope but ADDRESSED being sent at the same time? Is it not blatantly obvious that this will cause problems?
