Item been in transit from Heathrow DC to Leeds mail centre

Post by Stinkypete »

Had an item from USPS that’s come through everything pretty quick but at 3.20 am I had a notification saying passed through facility at Heathrow so I checked Royal Mail tracking and it said on its route to Leeds mail centre at 3.20am yet still now update at 18.24. Is this because it’s a weekend? Or is this normal?

Yes, 3.20 is probably when it was scanned as being headed towards Leeds, but it doesn't mean it left at exactly that time. Each parcel heading towards Leeds has to be scanned, placed in a Yorkie, that Yorkie then with probably 63 other ones gets loaded on to a trailer ready for dispatch

Now if your parcel was in the first Yorkie, or even just an early Yorkie for that load, it could be a few hours before it actually starts the trip up the M1. Add to that it is a 5-hour journey for an artic and then each Yorkie has to be unloaded from the trailer, then each individual item scanned as it is sent on to the Delivery Office the process is quite a long one even when RM was a 24/7 service.

Unfortunately, we are no longer a 24/7 service and over a weekend there can certain hours when no operations take place. It looks like that's what has happened. The Mail centres do start processing again Sunday evening I believe so you might see further scans Sunday night, Monday morning.

Thanks for your reply. I did think this was probably the case. Rather than saying pending on the tracking it now says in transit on track and trace saying it’s left the ILC and is on its way to me, more updates will appear along the journey. Fingers crossed it can get to me tomorrow
