Help please - mysterious missing package!

Post by cookalino »

Hello all,

I sold a mobile phone using their pre-paid packaging more than a month ago on 10th Jan. I got proof of posting but whenever I type the barcode into Royal Mail Track & Trace, I get the message 'barcode reference is not valid'. I also called Royal Mail and they told me that they couldn't do anything without a valid barcode number. The barcode starts 'ZZ' and ends 'GB' if that helps.

On the proof of posting it says 'Horizon Certificate of Posting Tracked Returns' (although this wasn't a return). Does this mean anything to anybody?

I asked the recipient (mobile recycling company) and they told me to send in a P58 to Royal Mail. I am trying to fill this in but have no idea which box to tick for 'what service was used' as it was prepaid packaging - could anyone help with this?

Many thanks for reading if you got this far!

Is there a lithium battery in the package, and if there is how is it packed within the package?

I told them at the Post Office that it contained a battery. I believe they put the labels on.

What Space Phoenix means is, did you put it in a cardboard box within the envelope, or was it just a Jiffy bag or polythene envelope?

With regards the service used, did the envelope / label have a number 1, a number 2 and / or an ‘R’ on it?

Hi,

It was an iphone that I sold so the battery is glued inside the phone. The packaging was cardboard packaging designed specifically for a mobile phone. Unfortunately I can't remember any more than that about the packaging.

Great question about the label - unfortunately I don't have any photo of the label but I can follow this up with the mobile recycling company (O2 recycle) or dig through my letters and see if I have a counterpart. I notice on their website (https://www.o2recycle.co.uk/packaging/) that it says 'r1' on the sample photo. I assume that means first class returns?

Many thanks,

Chris

Good news - just had a breakthrough. I looked back through the email trail and found a copy of the postage label, including the tracking number shown on there - sorry I didn't find this before.

It shows the service as 'Tracked 48'. Could anyone confirm whether this is something that I can fill a P58 in for and if so which service I should tick on the form?

Have you tried the tracking number in the Tracked 48 label?

Yes, the tracking number is the same one starting 'ZZ' and ending 'GB' that gives me the message 'barcode reference is not valid'. I wonder if this is a generic tracking number for O2 recycle?

Any thoughts on whether I can claim for Tracked 48 on a P58 and which service I should select on the form?

That doesn't sound like a Tracked barcode
