International inbound held at Langley HWDC
I just thought I would post this in case anyone can help. I have a small packet from the USA held at Langley HWDC awaiting charges to be paid. Is there anyway of speeding things up, for instance a number to call to pay the charges? I don't even know why there are charges, it's only a waiters knife with corkscrew.

Anything coming from outside the EU, worth more than 18 £ and not a gift is subject to tax.
If it is waiting at Langley, it won't be for the *collection* of charges, which is done at your local delivery office. It will be waiting to be *assessed* for charges, and also for checks that your item conforms to the UK's entry requirements. Having looked at a waiter's knife online, it will probably be allowed in but it may well have to go for extra checks. This is because it is, in some respects, similar to a flick-knife, and those are not allowed in. Things which are similar to banned items often take a long time to clear customs.
There is no way to speed up any of the above.
