Mail being delivered to the wrong address

Post by Biddilybah »

Hi,
Can anyone help me with the procedure to take in making sure my mail is delivered correctly? A number of letters and packages are being sent to the wrong address in the next town. The only matching words of our addresses is the house number and the word "fosters". Everything else is completely different.

It was my understanding that mail is sorted by the house number and postcode so I'm not sure why this continues to happen and why the postmen continue to deliver the mail even though they have been made aware of this problem by myself and the person receiving my mail.

I've complained to Customer Services twice and even sent an email to Moya Greene herself. Every time I've been promised it would be sorted but it's still happening nearly a month later. :arrrghhh

Any help would be really appreciated in getting the matter sorted. Thanks in advance. :Very Happy

Mail being delivered to the wrong address

You say next town - with a different first part of the postcode. for example, you HD1 them HD5 or even further you HD1 and them WF15.

If its the first one then someone really needs to go down to the Delivery Office and ask to speak to the manager of your postcode, point out what's happening and ask if they can check the mail before it goes out. They will start a process where a warning card alerts the posties of the possible confusion and they and the manager check that all the mail is correct for delivery.

If the 2 postcodes are very different then its an issue with the Mail Centre and the Delivery Posties may not even be aware of the issue. However, its sorted the same way, just that representatives from each address needs to go down to the respective Delivery Offices to start the above.

I know its a pain to visit the Delivery Office, but take it from a 13-year service Postie, there is sometimes a lack of communication between the call centres and the operational end, so its always better to go and speak to the horse's mouth to get a solution.

Sorry, I forgot to say that both postcode areas start the same. Both are NG13. I've been and spoken to the delivery office and mentioned it to the person I collected the mail from and he said he'd try to make sure they're aware of the issue. Our delivery offices are different though so the missing post is being sorted incorrectly at the Nottingham Mail Centre end. I definitely don't blame the postie or delivery office that some packages end up in. I mean it's so random how some go there and others don't but the issue only began around 12 months ago and I've been living at this address for 10 years now.

Just really frustrating how the call centre end and even Moya Greene herself, say they'll look into sorting it but nothing is resolved.

If both your address and the other one are NG13 then both will be the same delivery office unless a sub-office cover's either your address or the other address. Is either your address or the other one a new build?

Next time you go down ask to see the manager, that way you'll have a point of contact to annoy if it continues. If you have got Moya's office in the loop then I am surprised it's not sorted as an email from her office staff usually sets our managers off into a sweat.

Neither are new builds and we definitely have different delivery offices as the tracking shows them when receiving tracked mail. It only began about a year ago and I've been here for 10 years now. It's very random too. Happens about once a month but other mail gets here fine.

Just to make sure you aren't barking up the wrong tree, best to put your address into this web form and check that the post code comes out as expected:

http://m.royalmail.com/mt/www.royalmail ... a-postcode" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It came out fine. I get mail here every day still, but some mail/packages find their way to the other address each month.

Fine, but it was worth checking. I have dealt with this complaint from customers before, and about half of them were using the wrong postcode. Also, I am aware that RM customer services can be less than helpful if they can't positively identify your address.
