Where does Royal Mail get it's GPS info from?

Post by Pat100 »

Letters and parcels which are correctly addressed to me are delivered to an address a quarter of a mile away. This happens with Royal Mail, Hermes etc. I've complained to the sorting office, couriers, merchants.
I presume that my post code brings up the wrong coordinates on these agencies' devices so I need to get the company that supplies GPS data to correct their database. I.e. go to the source.
But what is the source? Can anyone help, please?
Pat.

I am fairly sure that all delivery companies work from postcodes not GPS coordinates. Much easier to go with the information on the packet and it might actually be illegal to override address data in the way you suggest. As a basic sense check, could you please put your address into Postcode and Address Finder and tell us if the postcode generated matches the one you use?

Assuming the other address has a similar name/number road name?

Navteq provides a lot of data for the Sat Nav manufactures , so if indeed it's a data error then that would be a first port of call

Or ultimately the Department of Defence in the USAas they are responsible for the GPS network in space but I think if that had an error then there would be other issues ( planes crashing , boats off course etc)

I had a go at this, typed in my postcode on the link above and it had the wrong house, in the wrong location, only about 80 yds out though. Then when I used the generated map to click on my actuall address it gave a different street entirely - although that street does cut behind me.
