Special Delivery Guaranteed being "returned to sender"

Post by AR123 »

I am really worried as I sent off some very important documents including my original marriage certificate, passport and visa application to the immigration office with a pre-paid for sticker (special delivery guaranteed) for them to be returned to me. They did receive them and sent them to me and when royal mail attempted to deliver them I was not at home so they decided to deliver them to my neighbour! I do't know which neighbour because the writing on the card I received was illegible but thankfully they returned these documents to Royal Mail but their now in the National Return Centre.

I am usually at work during their delivery times and was wondering if, considering this parcel is a special delivery, I would be able to get them back ASAP and ask them to post it to a local post office to be picked up?

Royal Mail staff have not been helpful and keep telling me they should have been delivered! Through tracking my parcel online I can see that they are still at the national return centre. Can someone PLEASE guide me as to what I can do and whom I should contact?

Sounds like the item was delivered to the wrong address and the neighbours that signed for it then realised that it was not intended for them and sent it back as not at this address, or it was delivered to neighbour :no no and they decided they had waited long enough for the op to collect and RTS'd it.

If the OP as a tracking number they should be able to see the name of the person that signed for it and work out who the neighbour was and see what happened. Or a visit to the DO and a word with the manager, again with the tracking number.

If it is definitely at the National Returns Centre then you need to fill in and send a P58inland form (this is probably the up to date one: http://www.royalmail.com/business/sites ... rm-P58.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Royal Mail have to be very careful about making sure such documents get to the correct person, but if you fill this in they will hopefully take that as sufficient proof to send the item on to you.

It is normally possible to have items sent to a Post Office for collection for an additional charge but I would think Royal Mail would be reluctant to do that in this case, given the contents of the package and the security implications.
