Parcel in National returns centre

Post by edisonchoika »

Hi everyone, I am students studying in Edinburgh. My classmates sent me my degree certificate with a power bank to me. So the parcel was detected dangerous. I called Royal Mail officers which told me only my power bank will be disposed, and I should wait for 3 weeks to get it but recently they told me I won't get my certificate at all. It is really really important to me, so what can I do? Is it possible to go to the National Return Centre and find it myself? It is a very crutial document in my life. I hope you guys can help me. I will pay for that if you can help me and thank you very much.
BTW, the reference number is AF127531795GB.

Power banks are a bit of a grey area, which is probably why you are getting mixed messages from Royal Mail. When I worked for the Post Office I tried and failed to get RM to explain if they are treated like batteries or like mobile phones. What I think I can say is that used power banks are more likely to be treated harshly than brand new ones in their original packaging.

Ultimately, it is up to the Civil Aviation Authority to say what happens to the package.

There is no chance at all that you can go to the NRC to look for your item. It is against the law for Royal Mail to allow unauthorised people into any area that contains mail, they could be prosecuted for letting you in, plus a fair percentage of the parcels at NRC are suspected to contain dangerous contents. Letting a civilian in would be a legal nightmare! Even without those issues, the NRC houses literally millions of items at any given time and is located in Belfast.

When dealing with RM regarding this, please bear in mind that one of your friends has probably committed a criminal offence here. RM don't normally prosecute, but don't wind them up.

I would ask the university about getting a replacement certificate, it probably isn't as hard as you think.

Thanks for your help, I have contacted their costumer service already but they just lied to me that I would get my documents after 3 weeks. By the way, all the universities in my country will not offer me a replacement of them. That's why I am so concerned about it. Anyway thank you to reply to me. I wish some miracles happened in the United Kingdom.

i think they told you 3 weeks as that would be the amount of time where you can escalate your query to a missing parcel complaint. However like youve been told, the sender has committed a criminal offense, im sure they didnt realise it but thats the case. I wouldnt hold my breath that itll arrive, Id say you have a better chance of getting another certificate.
