Post Office receipt has the wrong postcode

Post by stevenah »

I had someone drop off an item for me today at the Post Office and I've just noticed they've marked the wrong address on the receipt, instead of LS24 they've put IS24, I CLEARLY put LS24 on the package so I'm wondering if it'll still make it? I tried calling the Post Office but I got bounced from machine to machine for about 30 minutes and gave up.

The funny thing is there isn't even a IS24 postcode.

Post Office receipt has the wrong postcode

The postcode on your receipt, and data entry done by the Post Office in general, does not affect the progress of your package. Royal Mail staff and machines will only look at what is written on the parcel and can't even see what the PO typed unless they make a special effort to check your item on their office PC (this rarely happens, and only applies to Signed For and Special Delivery items). The one problem with having the wrong postcode on the receipt is if the item goes missing and you have to make a claim: luckily there is no IS postcode area, so Royal Mail should be fine with a claim, though I'm not sure how eBay would view it if that's what you are doing. If you want to make a complaint, and you are sure that you put an upper case L on the packet, you should call Post Office customer services on 03457 22 33 44, or you can email, tweet etc.

OK thank you, and yes it's for eBay and I did definitely mark it with a capital L. I've asked the buyer to let me know if he gets it tomorrow as he should, if not I'll take it from there.
