I am trying to understand why my tax returns to the IRS processing centre could not be delivered. I send them international tracked (but not signed for). Today I see tracking information:
A delivery was attempted for your item with reference LB298944299GB in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on 03/04/16.
UNDELIVERED ADDRESSEE HAS PO BOX
If the addressee does not collect it or make an arrangement to have it redelivered, it will be returned to the sender in the UK.
Why does this happen? The address to which I was sending was a very ordinary one:
Department of the Treasury
Internal Revenue Service Center
Austin, TX 73301-0215
USA

What does this mean? UNDELIVERED ADDRESSEE HAS PO BOX
If its the same as the UK then they may have people who get mail addressed to a Po Box delivered to their geographical address. Also, they can have a geographically addressed mail (like yours) can be delivered to a Po Box.
Nothing to worry about it probably means that haven't collected on Sunday, but will collect today or over the next few days.
Also, if its the same as the UK bulk receivers tracked items take a few days to update.

What does this mean? UNDELIVERED ADDRESSEE HAS PO BOX
Yep, effectively means the mail as arrived and is sat in the callers office awaiting collection. Same as a PO box in the UK, scanned items are scanned into the callers office and the clock is stopped so even of the recipient doesn't collect the mail on that day regis etc will not have failed their timed delivery.
