lost parcel from Japan

Post by rexrapter1234 »

On the 12/01/16 I had a very big parcel posted from Japan to the United Kingdom. The Parcel came from Hokkaido in Japan and posted using sal to United Kingdom. After 3 weeks of the parcel not turning up and no Card left by Royal Mail, I contacted the seller of the item to find out where it was, he went to the local post office in Japan to find out what had happened to the parcel and he said that they cannot find it as it was lost in transit.

So I decided to wait seeing as Japan had heavy snow fall in January to see if it would turn up in February or March, which it didn't, so I contacted Japan post service to see if I could get any info of where the parcel was, but they weren't very help full. I also contacted Parcelforce, Royal Mail on Twitter and Royal Mail on Facebook, Royal Mail by email and also asked at the my local sorting office in Haverfordwest for help with this problem.

On the 24 of March I emailed the seller to see if the parcel had some how been shipped back to him. He said that my parcel had not returned to him.

Any ideas on how I go about finding it?

Very little chance of finding it. Did it have a tracking code?

Unfortunately no, I asked the seller in January for the tracking info and he said there was no tracking number for my parcel.

Where do lost international parcels normally end up?

Depends where they were lost and who lost them. For Royal Mail it's the RLB section which has 2 locations, but there is no direct customer interaction it's done through Customer services. Without a tracking number, there is even less chance of finding it.

If you paid for the item put a claim in for a refund, they should have used a tracking number for most international selling sites, and you only have their assurance they actually sent it.

If the seller doesn't have a tracking code, how could they know it was lost in transit? That sounds fishy to me.

If the item is more than 2Kg (more than 5Kg if it only contains books and / or magazines) then it will come via Parcelforce or one of the private carriers, but not Royal Mail. One of Parcelforce's untracked services can take 3 months and still be within 'normal' timescales. However, the important thing here is the timescale that the seller contracted to get the parcel to you, not the timescale of the service they chose. As TBT says, get your claim in, and soon.

It's possible that the item hasn't reached the UK yet or has reached the UK but might be stuck in customs, it's not unusal for things to get stuck in customs for a month

Because he went to the Japan post office to find out what had happened to the parcel and they tolled the seller it was lost in transit.

The parcel weights around 0.94kg.

I've emailed Royal Mail about a claim but as it only international parcel they will deal with the seller only.

True. I don't think the snow in Hokkaido helped much with the delivery time too.

The refund claim needs to be made against the seller, not Royal Mail. That's what I meant originally.

Yes, the point being that, with no tracking number, there was no way for the Post Office to know that it was lost in transit. Along with some of the other things you posted, it looks like the sender is attempting to put you off claiming against them for a while, in the hopes that you will miss the deadline to put a claim in.
