Hi there, a seller posted an item to me using Special Delivery 1pm on Saturday, and told me I would receive the item on Tuesday 23/2.
However, the tracking on the RM site shows that it's still on it was to delivery office from the south midlands mail center for more than 24 hours now. The online tracking shows the below:
23/02/16 04:19 ON ITS WAY TODELIVERY OFFICE SOUTH MIDLANDS MAIL CENTR
22/02/16 20:19 ON ITS WAY TOSOUTH MIDLANDS MAIL CENTRE(CV) NOTTINGHAM MAIL CENTRE
22/02/16 19:52 ITEM COLLECTED NOTTINGHAM MAIL CENTRE
20/02/16 12:23 SENT AT POST OFFICE 432 Stenson Road DE23 1LN
I mean does it really require more than 24hrs to get to a delivery office, unless the item has gone missing hence why it's not got a scan in the delivery office yet. Calls to RM can't give me any answer, they just keep giving me empty promises, saying there might be a possibility of it arriving today.
Hope someone could shed some light on what could be the issue here.

It's probably just late. Although SD is more than 99% reliable, and is the most reliable service in the industry, things can go wrong. For example, the van might have broken down in transit. If there is a 24 hour delay on an SD then the tracking usually goes cold like this. I would expect the next tracking to be seen overnight and delivery to take place tomorrow morning.
From a consumer point of view, you might be able to claim back some of the postage cost for it being late, depending on the delivery time you agreed in the contract. Legally it is the seller's responsibility to get it to you on time, not RM's. The seller will be able to claim back the full postage cost from RM.

I was expecting the tracker to be updated sometime early morning today, I mean whatever the issue was for the delay could have been sorted out the whole of yesterday. The reason we went with SD is because of the low turn around time of receiving the item, otherwise we would have opted for 1st class mail.
Well, the claim of the postage fee isn't such a big deal, it's more the item reaching me on time. I believe the seller had full confidence in SD but RM could not live up to it's guarantee this time. Gotta play the waiting game now I guess.

I see what you mean now, I got my dates mixed up before.
There are other possible problems, such as an ambiguous / incorrect address or, as it's a Special, the sender used a sticky address label and that came off the poly envelope (you really need to write it on by hand). Customer services won't know anything more than what is on track & trace.

Looks like it was delivered at 1203 today - but there are loads of scans missing between the one above and the delivery one.

Has it been sent to the wrong mail centre? It went to South Midlands but was delivered in the Coventry area, should it have gone to a Birmingham mail centre in the first place?
