Hi guys I've recently brought something from America and I just wanted to ask what does this mean? It's the latest thing on the royal mail tracking site. It updated last Friday (19th February 2016) and I thought i'll wait until Monday to see if it updates again as Saturday and Sunday's aren't working days.

My question is do I need to go to the delivery office in Uxbridge or will It get delivered by royal mail? As under the 'progress of your item' section, the status reads 'It's on its way.'

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance!

If its value is over £18, or Customs believe it to be so, then VAT is due.

Your tracking status is what appears when VAT is due, you should receive a grey card outlining the costs, hopefully fairly qiuckly.

Return the card with payment or pay online and the delivery process will be started.

Or go down with the grey card and pay and they'll hand it over (take ID though)

You have to wait for the Grey card if this is the reason though.

Thanks for the quick reply bud! The value was approx $120 from what I remember, do you know how long it will take for me to receive this grey card? And how much the VAT will be?

If its a standard rate item the total will be around £24  (depends what exchange rate they use) and that includes the Admin charge RM place on all VAT import items.

Its not such a good saving when this is taken into account is it. :cry

Hopefully you'll get the card this week, it depends how quick they process it.

No no, i didn't purchase it to save money lol, i couldn't buy it from anywhere else as i brought it off a person, it was an item that had been modified to peform and work better. But hey, that doesn't mean i'm happy that i'm paying an extra 30 odd quid, i'll definately take that into consideration the next time i purchase something overseas.

I've got one other question, do you know how long it'll roughly take for me to recieve my item from when i pay the VAT? I hope it doesnt take too long for them to process the cash etc :(

A day or two at most, it will depend on how you pay and when the office is told you have paid.

I'll most probably pay via a debit card
