Hi
I ordered some stuff yesterday and paid extra for the guaranteed next day special delivery service.
On looking on the Royal Mail tracking system I see the following:
27/02/15 00:02 DESPATCHABLE TONIGHT TO EARLY SHIFT HANDOVER LONDON CENTRAL MAIL CENTR
I was under the impression that this service meant delivery at 9am ish the next day, am I likely to see this package today? is there anyone I can contact to get it delivered? Is it worth hanging around?
Its a birthday present that I have arranged for to be delivered to my work so I really need it asap.
Anyone know what I can do - I am in Basingstoke

How late did you order it? If your order came in after the final collection by RM for next day delivery then it can't get there until the following day, i.e. Saturday now. It looks to me like that's what's happened. (By the way, that's not an official response, just a dumb postie having a guess). The vendor should have made this clear at the time of purchase if that is what's happened.
PS - specials are usually guaranteed by 1pm, the 9am service is more expensive again.

Not too sure what time it was sent but it was ordered at about 1pm (probably a bit before). Not sure what time the cut-offs are for getting to the post office but I would have thought that the vendor got it there before the cut off as there is an extra cost for Saturday delivery. Grrr :)

Well, it's probably not much consolation to you as you need the item, but you could claim a refund of the premium delivery option if you didn't get it. I understand that getting a refund of cost of a failed special is a pretty straightforward thing. I'd be contacting customer services I think, they'd have a better idea of what the actual story is.

I have already sent them an email asking if they can sort it out, will be sending them another over the weekend or Monday when I get back into work on Monday to find that it is here, especially got it (tried to get it) delivered to work so there would be someone available to receive it too. grrr. so angry when this happens.

Special Delivery is guaranteed to be delivered the day after posting. If the person you buy from doesn't send it for 2 or 3 days then you have a problem with them, not Royal Mail.

Yeah, as I thought, the item was entered into our system too late to make the Friday delivery and it's currently being held on a Saturday retention at your local Delivery office to be delivered on Monday when your workplace opens. the tracking has updated now:

It looks to me like your complaint should be directed against the vendor for not managing the delivery as per spec, if that's what it says on your invoice.
