Airmail service

Post by alchie »

Hi there! I'd like some advice.
I ordered 2 box sets from a famous publishing company's site. The package was posted on Nov 4 via first class airmail to Romania. That's what the customer support officer told me.
However I have some doubts. I discovered, reading the official royal mail site, that there's no such thing as first class airmail service (as it's an UK domestic service), thus I thought she referred to the standard airmail service. However the package should weight around 4.5kg (I've also read that it's possible to send books up to 5kg through the printed papers service) and the company charged me for the shipment for way less than it's written on the official royal mail site. So I was wondering does royal mail have contracts with companies to offer them a discount for deliveries or ill I be charged more for the shipment when I receive the parcel?
And as it's already been nearly a month since the parcel was sent, I tend to think that it was sent through the surface mail service (economy). If so, how much time does it take to get here? I was told there is no tracking number for the service used, so I have no idea where that parcel could be right now.

You said Box sets and books - if its book then according to http://www.royalmail.com/romania" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - which is specific to Romania it says:
Prohibited products are not permitted in the mail under any circumstances.

Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans
so its possible that Image have destroyed it or returned it to the sender

My friends have received books from UK before and there haven't been any problems. I think that they're referring to illegal copies of books. I bought the orginals so there shouldn't be such a thing. If they were returned it would only be polite to receive a notice from the shop I purchased them from and get a refund. And if the Romanian Post Office had really done that I would get some kind of notice, don,'t you think so?

I got more information from the Royal Mail site regarding the prohibited printed books that is referring strictly to Romania.
Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts,
typescripts and plans
Heading HS Code ˇ Prohibited articles
49.01 Indecent or obscene books.
49.07 4907.00 Counterfeits of legal tender notes, consolidated banknotes and fictitious stamps.
49.09 Indecent or obscene cards.
49.11 Indecent or obscene photographs.
As you can see this is not the case.
