Help! Made a stupid mistake!

Post by rambar »

Hi all,

I bought some things from an online seller and mistakenly gave him the correct delivery address but wrong postcode. I asked him to send it to the address of my shop but instead of putting the correct postcode (N8) I mistakenly gave him the one of my house (N10).

He sent it today via Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm. No return address on the package unfortunately but he has the original receipt from when he shipped it at his local post office. Any ideas what is going to happen?

Very concerned so would appreciate any advice you can give. Tried to contact Royal Mail to rectify the address but they said they can't change anything.

Thanks in advance.

Would it help if I called the N10 delivery office and just explained the situation maybe? Told them where the shop is located? Or would they not speak to me?

You could try, but they couldn't deliver it anyway as its outside their area. You'll have to call them around 7am before the posties leave to deliver. There doesn't seem to be a Park Road in the N10 area but there are several in London so officially it should be killed off and then returned to sender or to the Returns Letter Branch in Belfast, where in a secure location they will open it and try to ascertain who sent it.

If you do call the N10 office they officially can't do anything because it should be delivered as addressed or returned, so be polite and try to be as friendly as possible. They MAY be able to change the delivery to you home address if someone can wait in for it, but that is a very long shot.

Remember officially they should return it if the address/post code does not exist but sweet talk may help.

Hi all.. Im feeling sick to my stomach.. Please someone confort me with some good news.

I left my passport at a freinds house miles away and I am going on holiday tomorrow night!!

The thing is I told him to send to my work address which has the postcode GU15 (camberley) but he has put my house postcode on which is GU11 (aldershot)

I am absolutely screwed if this passport does not arrive! the thing is he hasnt put a returns address on it!

Please tell me postmen have a bit of savvy when they see a slight mistake?

I will have to cancel my £400 holiday if i dont get it tomorrow on the special delivery.

Please help! Is there anything I can do>?? :(:(

get him to go back to the Post office - collections are normally around 5 pm so he'll have to hurry.

If not I think the chances are slim that you'll get it as it will be sent to the DO by Post Code not by address.

Hi mate! Thanks for the response!

I tried that this morning by ringing the po that he sent it from but the woman had put all the special deliveries on the van in the morning when she shouldnt have done!

Its in the system now so clueless on if there is anything else I can try?

Will calling the sorting office in the morning and try to explain to them help in any way?

If anyone has got a telephone number for the local office to Aldershot/Camberley, I would appeciate it so much!!

thanks

can I add that the postcode on the packet is about 15 minutes drive from the postcode that it needs to get to.

Will that make a difference?

Thanks.

Yes they are 2 different offices from what I can tell and they may not be in the same pipeline from the local Mail Centre, if they are in what we call the same "Intra" then there is a chance you'll still get it. Keep an eye on the tracking from around 6am tomorrow morning. If you do make a trip to either office then make sure you take at least 2 types of ID with you and proof of address. You can get a number and map for both offices from http://www.royalmail.com/delivery-and-c ... ice-finder" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

thanks again! i will get up early and keep checking. If i rang the correct sorting office at the right time will they allow me to pick it up from them without a card that the postman drops through the door? Obviously I will have drivers license and passport with me.

officially no - but sweet talk them and explain the situation as fully as possible and they may bend the rules - or if it goes to the wrong DO they may be able to send it to the right one.

Goof luck.

Just thought I'd mention that she did do the right thing. Many post offices incorrectly hold back special deliveries for the last collection when they should go on the first available collection.

PS Hope you got your passport on time.
