The RM are saying that negotiations have been successful and a settlement has been agreed. Which reading here is obviously not true since the members have not had a vote.L Tommo wrote:Well opti.....

So I shall look forward to some more angry customers who think that everything is back to normal from tomorrow, which is what is implied on RM website.

Read again it does say that the disruption will continue for sometime to come.Trends Guild wrote: The RM are saying that negotiations have been successful and a settlement has been agreed. Which reading here is obviously not true since the members have not had a vote.

Settlement AgreedSaturday 13th October Update
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Royal Mail is pleased to report that negotiations with the Communications Workers Union (CWU) have been successful and a settlement has now been reached.
We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience the strikes have caused, and thank you for your ongoing patience through this difficult time.
We are now working hard to return to normal as quickly as possible, but there is a significant build-up of mail that will take some time to clear. We will deal with all mail in the order in which we received it, and will re-instate all service guarantees and promises as soon as we are able to honour them.
Unofficial strike action
However we are very disappointed to report that some colleagues are currently taking unofficial strike action, in several parts of the country, which will inevitably lenghten our recovery period, and affect services in these areas. Please call our customer service helpline - 08457 950 950 for business customers and 08457 740 740 for residential customers - for the latest details.

It says that agreement has been reached.
I am assuming agreement has not yet been reached until the members are asked if they agree or not. The statement makes it look like agreement has been reached and it's all over bar the backlog (and unofficial strike action).

At least the CWU site joint statement is accurate, but not many people will read that, just as the most of them do not read this forum.

Thats the biggest problem, its more than likely that the strike will be called off and we will get a vote on it, but Royal Mail shouldnt put out that its a done deal its very misleading IMHOPTrends Guild wrote:Aye..I posted it here - I didn't think it was my place to post it in the News forum.Pochahontas wrote:Then may I suggest you click on this link

My problem is that if you utter any views that do not fit in with fairly extreme views then generally people resort to abuse.
Not all - True blue Terrier for instance was very informative and gave me a good insight into what was going on.
On the other side of the coin you have IWW Fellow worker who just dishes abuse.

NB to the original poster - the BBC article here is saying that the ballot will be postal and the results not known for one month, so I guess anything could happen.
