Despite numerous attempts over the last 18 months we are still no further forward in getting our business address re activated. I have telephoned Royal Mail address activation unit in London area, and was told at the time it had been taken off the list of addresses as there had been no return received by Royal Mail when canvassed prior to our occupation of what had been vacant premises since the closure of the former occupier, and undertaking business.
We are constantly plagued by carriers, BT and other public bodies that our address does not exist and insist on directing deliveries and packages, or collections to a block of flats next door. Can some one please tell me how I get this matter resolved once and for all, as it is impacting on our business significantly as we apparently can't be at the address we are because it doesn't exist!!!
Yours very frustrated
Bill

Never mind the Royal Mail address activation unit in the London area.

Re: Our business address doesn't exist!!!
I don't know if it's the same for business addresses as for domestic addresses, but when I moved into my flat I was told by various utility companies and retailers that it didn't exist because it wasn't shown on the Post Office Address Database.
I had to contact my local council to get them to notify the Post Office that the address does exist, but I still get problems occasionally because some organisations still use their old version of the Post Office database rather than buy a new one.

Delivery Offices have someone that updates changes to addresses. Ask your postman to tell them about the change. The PAF should be updated in a week or so.
Companies get updates to their PAF files up to quarterly so it can take awhile to get through to everyone.

Many thanks for all your input, and it was the office in Sunderland that put us in contact with London!!Try the main one in Sunderland http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... dByPAF.pdf
The theory of the Royal Mail system is great, the reality is something different. If I go onto Royal Mail's online 'search for an address' system, our address appears. If I call any, and I mean any carrier and we deal with several on a daily basis and have for many years, on the software they get from the Royal Mail, our address doesn't exist!
When BT came to install new lines in October last year when we moved premises, it took over 4 months to get operational lines installed and broadband sorted out because our address didn't exist according to BT's database, and they repeatedly sent engineers to the adjacent property to both survey and install new lines they didn't want! It took me writing an email to the Chairman of BT to get it sorted out, meeting with an engineer at their exchange and taking him to our premises. He couldn't meet me at our premises because their system stated it didn't exist so I met him at their's, and they blamed Royal Mail for the entire matter because our postal address no longer existed in the data they get from Royal Mail, despite the property having been there since the late 1800's. In effect, it had been 'demolished' by Royal Mail, but despite my best efforts I seem to be unable to get Royal Mail to 'rebuild' the address! I have even taken photos of the building, google map linked it, had the Council verify the existence of the property but it's still apparently not there!!
Hmmmm, if it's not there maybe I shouldn't be paying rates, water charges etc!!

Re: Our business address doesn't exist!!!
The mysterious ways of Royal Mail... Bill, sometimes simple direct action is the best. Take a picture of your business premisses, turn up in person at your local delivery office and ask to see the manager. Give him your address and show him/her the picture of your premisses including delivery point. Insist that he adds you on the A+ while you are there. You will get mail within days.BillSturrock wrote:Many thanks for all your input, and it was the office in Sunderland that put us in contact with London!!Try the main one in Sunderland http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... dByPAF.pdf
