Post by Rolfie »

Hi I belong to a sailing club which does not have its own postcode. How can it be registered please and is there a cost?

Its usually done through your own local council because they are the Street Naming and Numbering Authority under the Town Improvement Clauses Act 1847 section 64, and the Public Health Act 1925 sections 17-19.

In essence you register with them and they then inform Royal Mail and a postcode is then entered in the database. If you already have a post code then sorry but it can't be changed as the Post Code is used to route mail correctly, and without an extremely good reason I don't think either Royal Mail or the local council will allow a change, which is expensive for both, to happen. However there is a code of practice for changing postcodes on the PAF file (the master record of post codes) and it may help http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/ ... 2004_2.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Presumably the sailing club is on a road that does have a postcode, in which case that's the sailing club's postcode too. :Very Happy
If it applies for a P O Box number it will then have its own postcode but that wouldn't be cheap. :sad:
