Tracking of letters comming from abroad

I'm an internet seller basen in Thailand and I'm having trouble with registered letters sent to Britain.

I'm getting more item not received claims for registered letters than for ordinary ones.

This doesn't look very logical to me and I suspect some people have actualy received the parcel, but they are taking advantage of the poor tracking provided by Royal Mail, to get items for free.
Also I have positive feedback in ebay for items that are not shown in the RM tracking, so I know for a fact that RM tracking does not work well.

I asked my local post once and they told me in some countries they don't use to update the trackings of foreign letters and I suspect when some people receive a registered letter they didn't have to sign for and tracking has not been updated, they just see the chance to claim they didn't receive item and get a refund.
For some other countries, like Spain or Italy, I don't have that problem because parcels are allways signed for and trackable until the end.

My questions are:

-Why does this happen? Why don't they update the trackings?
- When I pay for a registered service, what am I paying for? Only a proof of postage or I should get a full tracking?
-Is there anything I can claim? Just today I've been forced by ebay to refund 32 £ to a buyer and I have yet another claim for 20 £. In Thailand this is a lot of money and I didn't ship more than about 50 parcels to Britain last month. Why do I have to pay for other people's badly done work?

Its because Royal Mail dont have an agreement with the Thailand postal service to provide reciprocal tracking and delivery information due to the thailand postal service not being able to meet royal mails technical and service standards

your bascially paying for proof of postage, you are unlikely to get tracking and if you do its more because it was scanned in error as the postie didnt realise it was one that tracking was not required on

you would need to take that up with the postal service in thailand, you cant claim from royal mail

Why do I have to pay for other people's badly done work?

Your not, you should pay for ups or some other courier if your looking for full tracking on an item

As an aside point, the reason you may be getting so many claims is that items can take upto a month to clear customs in the uk, so theres a good chance these customers are being genuine when putting in a claim for non delivery only for it to turn up at a later date due to the time for the item to clear uk customs

dear zx135 I guess you are a UK Postal Worker so you just dismiss any responsibility and put the blame on somebody else, but...

What I see in the Royal Mail page is this:

"Items sent from overseas to the uk can also be tracked using the Royal Mail website."

And about signed for letters, they say this:

•proof of delivery including a signature from the receiver
•check online or via your mobile to see when your item has been delivered
•compensation cover up to £50.

If I wanted just a proof of postage, I wouldn't pay any extra, I'd just keep the ticket.


About Thailand not meeting the technical requirements of Royal Mail, please let me doubt it. Thailand items can be tracked by the Royal Mail. The proof of it is some of my items are trackable until the end, whereas others are not. For other countries, like Spain, Italy, Argentina, parcels I send are allways trackable until the end.

Also when I receive foreign letters here in Thailand, I have to sign for them, and I can see the "delivered" status online.

These are some parcels I sent to the UK and they were trackable:

RR096479648TH, RR080046777TH, RR096479118TH, RR096479095TH, RR096488494TH


whereas these are not:

RR096479342TH, RR096479104TH, RR096479081TH, RR080046247TH, RR080045683TH

And many parcels that are not fully trackable until the end, are just last tracked at GBLALA, which I beleive is the main sorting office, 10 days after shipped. is GBLALA after customs? If so, that means my items pass clear the customs well, so that theory they are held for one month and that's why people claim can be dismissed.

I find it quite hard to believe that Royal Mail loses a high percentage of registered letters, So I think some people here are taking advantage of this to scam online sellers, and it looks like RM will not care until they have to pay themselves.

In Thailand Post they give me the chance to send claim to the destination country's Post, so what I'm going to do is send claims for all these items. This is just not acceptable.

ZX135 and everyone on here post in this forum on a voluntary and unofficial basis so I would thank you not to attack him in such an underhand manner. All he has done is pass on his opinions.

If you want advice and opinions ask on here and respond in a polite and respectful manner.

If you wan't an official reply or response then you will have to either go to the Post Office in Thailand or contact Royal Mail on twitter @RoyalMail.

That doesnt mean that all items will be tracked, the service received depends on what has been agreed by your postal service and royal mails, which unfortunately in your case is NO TRACKING

Thats a uk product you are quoting not for incoming international mail, you are not sending the items as 2nd class signed for delivery, thats a postage product that is purchased here in the uk

We dont we just dont scan them for confirmation of delivery

Royal Mail will simply reject your claim and advise you to contact the postal provider in thailand that you sent the items through
