1st class recorded is not a tracked service unfortunately, so it will only show after a delivery has been attempted, now at this time of year it may already have been delivered or attempted to be delivered but due to the volume of items going through the system if delivered on paper instead of handheld pda to get the signature it can take a little longer for the signature to appear or the delivery information to update or the item may still simply not have been delivered yet

has the recipient definitely confirmed that the item has not been received?

I'm an ebay seller....and over 10 recorded 1st parcels sent in the last 2 weeks have no updated tracking status....

Spoke to RM on the phone last night..v nice guy answered a lot of enquiries, but even he couldn't quite belive his eyes when i read out a list of a dozen or so tracking codes, all showing the same "recieved at POL" etc...

Even for xmas, this is simply staggering...going to have a hell of a lot of compensation forms to fill out..yippee

Does anyone know if the intended recipient has to confirm receipt or otherwise before any compesnation is given...its highly unlikely that most people will want to waste an afternoon filling in a form and god knows what for my benefit, since ive had to refund the majority straight out on ebay already anyway.....does royal mail(i blxxdy hope they do) honour their compensation policy in the simple case where there is no online (or otherwise) signature showing for that particular delivery??...

the amount of compensation will depend on RMs investigation, ie they wont simply pay out the value of the item upto the limit if no signature obtained, RM will contact the recipient and ask if item has been received if it has they will then only pay back the 75p or so extra charge for the signature, also watch your timescales for claiming, they are very strict on them and waiting till after the new year to fill in the forms may be out of time depending on when you sent the items

Hi,

yes,i know about the 15 working days limit...but,the guy at royal mail i spoke to last night said that if no signature was receieved, then the items is deemed lost by royal mail and you are entitled to the 50 pounds(upon proof of ebay listing, paypal invoice and so fourth)..this is what was communicated to me at any rate(he spoke to a senior rep there too apparently)...

they probably meant upto £50, also they wont pay the value you sold it on ebay, they will pay the value it cost you to buy it, and they only pay that if it cannnot be confirmed by the buyer that they have not recieved the item, if the buyer does confirm it you only get the £0.75 recorded fee back

I have had similar problems in the past. There is a few things that will cause the Signed For tracking to not update.

If the person is not in, then the tracking may not show a delivery attempted. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't. This seems to vary with the delivery office. In such cases, then hopefully when the person collects it, then it will show as delivery attempted.

When the paper confirmation of delivery is used, it takes a while for it to show on the system. I've had cases where it has taken two weeks for it to show in the system. I imagine at Christmas, they will be even further behind. If you phone their complaints line, they'll be able to tell you which day they are on for processing the paper confirmations.

If you've received feedback on eBay to say they've got the item, but no confirmation of delivery, then I just send off a claims form to say the delivery was not confirmed. Then they will either send a letter back with the confirmation, or they'll give you a book of 1st class stamps.

its held at office for 18 days before being returned, and normally only taken out once, unless a redelivery is requested, redelivery can be requested as many times upto the 18 days as the customer wants

thankyou for your reply ... he said there was not any card put through the door to say they had attempted delivery ..his place of work is just next to his house and usually the postie tries there if no one in ...in the past

hopefully it is just caught up in the Christmas mail
