registered letter arriving from France
Hello,
I'm very worried about an important international registered letter sent by me from France to my daughter in UK.
This letter was posted 14th November and was held 15 days !!! in the Roissy hub. According to La Poste tracking site it finally left France on 29th November.
I'm wondering if anybody knows how long this letter might be held in Langley - surely it doesn't have to go through customs? And if it will be tracked there?
Once out of there, if ever, how long to get to Sheffield area?
Thanks.

"It could" is the key phrase there. Could turn up the day after. Only thing you can do is wait and see really.
This site might give you more details if you put the tracking number in: http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: registered letter arriving from France
Thanks for your reply. I already tried the link MANY times and it says my number is unknown. Tried 17track which just ells me it left France on 29/11.
Are they likely to track it at Langley? It is registered after all.
From what I've seen on other similar posts it all depends :-(

It will likely only update when delivery is attempted or delivery has failed. I don't think it will track before it gets to your house.claralee wrote:Thanks for your reply. Thanks for that advice - that way I'll not be looking at track and trace every 5 minutes.
This is really atrocious 'service' on the part of the french - hope the Brits do better! Fingers crossed...

Re: registered letter arriving from France
We get a lot of French items coming through as specials.
Usually when scanned they don't require signature though.

Re: registered letter arriving from France
Yes I didn't specify signature since it's for my daughter so she'll definitely let me know since she knows I'm going ballistic about this!
Are you at Langley? Do they usually take a long time to get through as specials? It's only a 23g letter, not a parcel.
I sent a parcel a month ago which I just put into a very remotely situated post box and that got through in 2 weeks!

Re: registered letter arriving from France
OMG I spent all last week talking to them. They sat on the letter for 15 days basically and they couldn't care less. Bravo La Poste! Just what I would expect.
They do not tell you when you post a registered international letter that it will almost certainly be held up for weeks in that hell on earth called Roissy PIC.
This link is for parcels only btw - chronopost and colissimo, two misnomers if ever I saw one!

Re: registered letter arriving from France
It probably doesn't help being near Christmas. Maybe La Poste are giving priority to parcels over letters. Give the Tracking number another at http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but not before about 22:00 Monday evening. Once you see an entry there saying something like "Arrived in the UK" then the letter has entered RM's network.

2/12/13 12.34 DESPATCHABLE TOS/WESTSHEFFIELD PDO
