Unwanted Redirection

Post by j.blackstock »

Good evening,

Im hoping somebody here could help me with a redirection that has been set up without my permission.

Im an 82 year old man and my son in law (whom i gave power of attorney) set up the redirection without my knowledge. I think he feels im losing my marbles.
The main issue i have is he is opening my mail and i am not receiving it. I have alot of friends across the country and would hate to feel ive missed out on the Christmas cards i will likely receive.

Ive tried to contact royal mail but have been told there is nothing that can be done.

Regards Mr Blackstock

You gave him power of attorney, short of seeing a solicitor and having that recinded ...............

I would guess the redirection of mail was set up to stop you being drawn into all the foreign "you have won £1,000,000 just send £50 to validate your winnings" letters that the elderly are being targeted with again.

Like I say if you have any reason to think your SiL is withholding important mail see your solicitor, but trust me, you ain't won a red cent so don't get sucked in.

When you say you tried to contact Royal Mail do you mean at your local delivery office? They do not have the ability to do this. You need to contact the redirection centre 08457 777 888 or write to

Royal Mail Redirection Centre
PO Box 944
STOKE-ON-TRENT
ST1 5DB

You should have received a letter telling you a redirection had been set up, these do not get redirected specifically so that people are made aware if a redirection has been set up in their name without their knowledge.

Nothing can be done. You gave him Power of Attorney - that means he has every legal right to take out a redirection in your name. Royal Mail cannot cancel the redirection for you, as soon as you dispute it, he presents the POA documents and the redirection stands.

You need to get the POA cancelled before you can dispute this redirection. Contact your local Citizens advice or a solicitor.
