Recorded item missing

Post by dzee »

hi all,

i recently sent a domestic signed for item that didn't turn up to the destination, having double checked the receipt the postcode has 1 extra digit in the middle that shouldn't be there.

I'm not sure if i misspelt it on the package or the post office clerk hit an additional key accidentally, either way what can i do to get it delivered to the correct address?

many thanks

Have you tracked the item reference number at http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails?

With the postcode being wrong I imagine it will just delay it maybe 2-3 days. When was it sent?

Is the postcode that is written/printed on the actual item correct?

i think it was correct on the package but i cant be certain.

i phoned up the royal mail helpline and have been told it may have gone missing, apparently even if it was a wrong postcode it still would have been scanned in at the sorting office, which it never was. i have to wait 3 weeks and claim for it he said.

it wouldnt be scanned in the delivery office unless delivery was unsucessful, signed for is not a tracked service so the only time its due to get scanned is when delivery is attempted at the door

When was it sent?

And yes, if it's just a RD, not a SD, it travels with the rest of the mail and only gets scanned at point of delivery or when returned to the DO after an unsuccessful attempt to await instruction from the recipient.

It is possible that it was delivered without a signature, or it could be at the DO awaiting instruction after a failed delivery attempt and not scanned in for whatever reason.

I'd get the recipient to check with their DO just in case it's the latter.

If it doesn't turn up within 15 working days, you'll need to get a P58 form and send it off (free) to customer services with the receipt/proof of postage and they'll sort out the claim.

I'm assuming there was a return address on it as well?
