tracking code missing on the receipt
I have sent a letter via Recorded Signed for delivery service. I am a foreigner who has lived here for only 2 years so I have used this service for the first time. I have pointed out to the staff member that I want this type of service and I d like a receipt. She also asked if I wanted First class which I agreed with. She asked for £1,70 which seemed very little but I gave it to her in cash. she gave me some kind of till receipt and I asked again if that is all? She answered yes, that is it. So i left but just in case I kept the receipt. After 3 weeks my letter still was not delivered so I dug out the receipt in order to check whether it has been signed for. And I found out that on my receipt it says correct date, time, even postcode and name of the building where the letter was addressed to but it is missing the tracking number!! which I didn` t notice at the post office because I didn` t know what kind of numbers the receipt should actually contain. It made me think that the post officer must have send it accidentaly via standard service but the receipt is missing also information what service it has been sent through as well as information about the weight and the the price of the letter. I checked online and £ 1,70 is a correct price for signed for small letter which mine was. It makes me want to go to the post office and really create fuss. The receipt has some Session ID number and FAD code. IS there any chance that according to these they would be able to dig out my track number ? Or how do I get any claim if the post officer made a mistake and did not send the letter by a service that I asked and also paid for? What does my receipt actually prove? I really need to know the letter has been delivered otherwise if it was lost by the receiver I can get some decent claim back from him. I loose quite a bit of money by loss of this letter :=((((
