Am awaiting delivery of a computer modem from BT it was sent yesterday. I have a tracking reference and according to royal mail track & trace its status is on 'Pre-advice Received'
Contacted BT this evening who said BT have made a mistake and I should have had it by now. Basically RM's fault.
Anybody heard of anything like this before?
BT's forums are littered with similar experiences.

Re: Track & Trace 'Pre-Advice'
Customers using certain Tracked services submit an electronic pre-advice to Royal Mail which tells RM which packages to expect. The pre-advice is usually the first tracking event for those items and is followed by various Accepted and Delivered scans. It is certainly possible to pre-advise an item and not actually send it on that day. I don't think that anyone here could do more than speculate on whether that has happened in your case though - theoretically either BT, RM or both could be at fault
