I have a problem with a package! help

Post by deyutzzza »

Hi. i've made an order from ebay some weeks ago but at the delivery adress i forgot to put my house number,it was only street name, post code. i've contacted the seller regarding this, but they've already sent the item. The package didn't come with a track number, and the seller told me that the item didn't return either to them. I was thinking maybe can be at the local post then. How I can solve that, and check the package? many thanks

Normally your regular postman would recognize your surname as long as the street and postcode were correct like you mentioned. Unfortunately if you don't have a regular postman then the chances are it was returned to the sender, if there was no return address on the packet then it will just get destroyed.

Sorry but they are not "just destroyed" - they should be "killed off" and then sent to the RLB in Belfast.

The OP is best contacting Royal Mail Customer Services with as many details as possible, (item, packaging, address etc) and they can check the database or contact the RLB, there is a chance it will be recovered and either sent on to them, or returned to the sender.

However, if it doesn't turn up then I am afraid no claim for compensation will be successful.

Whether or not an item without an external return address (ERA) goes to the RLB depends on the payment method. PPI and meter items with no ERA should be destroyed whereas items paid by other methods which have no ERA go to the RLB. I think there might be separate rules for Special Delivery, Tracked etc
