Franking on Reverse Window Envelopes

Post by metalrat007 »

I have a franking problem that I can't find anyone able to answer
The situation is this:
I have a reverse window envelope that has a return address on the flap (in effect this means that the delivery address as seen through the window and the return address are both on the same side)
The customer will frank his own envelopes but is asking the question which side? obviously the simple answer is the face however in this instance the face is the reverse and it also contains the return address which overruns into the franking area
May he frank the opposite side to where the post address is or has the post address to be on the same side as the franking mark?
Many thanks

I would suggest the side with the delivery address is franked to prevent one of 2 things happening... it'll go through the sorting machine with the franked side and will be spat out as having no delivery address meaning it's manually sorted and potentially delayed OR It'll be spat out as having no postage on it and may end up being surcharged until someone hopefully notices it's on the back.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

The Royal Mail Franking scheme specifies that the franking mark must be on the front of the item - see http://www.royalmail.com/non-contract-t ... conditions
11.3

A Franking Mark must be clear and complete. It must appear in the top right hand corner on the front of an envelope or wrapper of the Letter, or on an address label which is stuck to the envelope or wrapper, or in
such other manner that has been approved by Royal Mail as set out in the Guidelines.
