Man behind counter gave it to me but grumbled that I should have paid for the package there as they "do not get any money" for online postage. Is this true? If so surely his beef is with Royal Mail and not me the customer?

Online Postage - Post Office grumbling!
Took one of my self-printed packages to a Post Office in the Manchester area today for a Certificate of Postage.

Well, grumbling at the customer isn't a good way of getting the customer to use their service, is it?!harry84 wrote:Took one of my self-printed packages to a Post Office in the Manchester area today for a Certificate of Postage.

And I'd imagine it probably is true in that you've not paid them for the postage and so they're not getting any part of the transaction besides the bit that doesn't cost any money.
It's up to you how you pay for your postage, but if you want to support your local PO then it's best to use it... RMG are looking for any excuse to close them anyway!
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

As has been said if you use the p.o. instead of prepaid labels, it might still be there when you need it instead of going under. If you really must use the prepaid labels maybe you could use a big p.o. that isn't run by mom and pop trying to get by.

Fair enough. I must admit I hadn't thought of this angle of things. Suppose that's what becomes of RM and PO being separate entities...Sidley wrote:As has been said if you use the p.o. instead of prepaid labels, it might still be there when you need it instead of going under. No they don't get a penny. PO's only earn when they sell direct to customers. And many are now getting fed up watching their pay packets shrink whilst handling quite large amounts of customers mail pre paid in many ways, and if they refuse to accept the mail they are in breach of contract. Can't win.
But as has been pointed out, PO's beef is with RM and shoudn't take it out on customers.
