Should I give up hope of my packet arriving?

Post by Still Hopeful »

Hello,

I've been expecting delivery of a packet which was posted on Monday 19th November using the standard First Class service. Unfortunately it still hasn't arrived. The sender was a very close friend who I've known for more than twenty years, so I don't doubt that it was posted and he's confirmed the address, too. He also posted it from a Post Office who advised him it required two First Class stamps.

Despite living 350 miles away he thought it'd reach me the next day, because he posted it in the morning. I thought it'd arrive on the Wednesday. However, that would still mean it would be eight days late if it arrived tomorrow. I just wondered if it's now likely to arrive at all? Does mail often get delayed this long?

I've never really experienced a problem with Royal Mail before, which is testimony to the decent service you folks provide, so I'm not having a pop or anything. I just would rather know if it's unlikely to arrive now, as I'm sick of arriving home only to be disappointed, :Boo hoo!

It might help if you could tell us the area from which it was sent, and the area that you live in. If someone on here works in either area they may be able to tell you of any local issues. No need for a full address, the nearest town or city will suffice.

Thanks for replying. It was posted from Worcester and the nearest city to me is Glasgow.

RM won't consider it "lost" until it's been 15 working days. I assume you've checked with your local Dellivery Office in case delivery has been attempted but no card was left for some reason?

It's "easily" (to quote the sender) small enough to fit through my letterbox, so no I haven't contacted the delivery office.

Basically, I'd like to know if it's now unlikely to be delivered. Does mail often get delayed this long?

Well you'd be surprised so I'd check with your local DO anyway. And no, it doesn't often get delayed that long, but it does happen.
