Hi,
I was supposed to receive a special delivery mail last week. Myself and my wife were very much at home still during afternoon when I checked the status it said "Returned to Sender" with reason stating, unable to find the recipient. On monday I checked again and found that the status was "Come back Later" with message:
Special Delivery™ Next Day items are first tracked when they have reached our mail centre. This may be late in the evening on the day the item was sent.Information on your item is not yet available online.
I checked with Royal mail customer support and they told me that they were not able to find senders address and so the mail would have sent to National Return Centre. They told me that NRC will try to identify the sender to which it has to be sent and will send it. If NCR is sending the mail to the sender, will Royal mail have a track of that mail so that I can track the same in http://track2.royalmail.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?
Regards,
Narayana.

Re: Track mail from NRC
Thanks so much for the prompt reply. Now it says "IN ADDRESSEE PO BOX" at tracking point "NATIONAL RETURN CENTRE". Does this mean they have identified the address to which this mail has to be sent?
Thanks again.

Narayana.

Re: Track mail from NRC
I am not certain and this is unofficial advice so may be wrong, but I think its just a standard status for when they scan it as arriving at the NRC. The NRC is basically a very large callers office and that status is nearly the same as we get for local Caller Offices.
Keep an eye on the status page as Customer Services should have taken details of your query and hopefully they'll be able to match it to the item and then return it the sender who will hopefully be able to double check the address details with you. Have you tried contacting the sender and see if they can shed any light on what happened.

Re: Track mail from NRC
The problem is that the sender sends 100s of mails per day, and I am not sure how much they will be interested in tracking this particular mail. Today sender's office is holiday. So I need to get in touch with them tomorrow. The reason of my worry is that it is my passport. What will NCR do if they get documents of this kind?

address is opened using specialist high speed letter opening machines,
whilst packets are opened manually. 'Signed For' or 'Special Delivery'
items are scanned in as received before being opened. The contents are
examined to see whether they meet the return criteria (for example, we
would not return advertising material) and if they do, we look to see if
there is a return address available. If the items are due to be returned,
we use our computer system to retrieve the correct return address and print
it on an envelope or label, which we then use to return the item to sender.
For items which fulfil our return criteria but where we cannot find a
return address, we will record as many details as we have about the item
and store it pending a customer claim. The storage period is dependent on
the product. Special Delivery items are held for 6 months, while ordinary
mail, including Signed For items are held for 3 months. However, should any
item have a significant personal or intrinsic value (eg wedding album), it
may be held for up to 12 months.'
'Items which we cannot return and which have no value (ie advertising) are
disposed of as confidential waste. Items which do not meet our return
criteria but which have some monetary value, along with items which have
been stored for the required period and have not been claimed, are disposed
of via auction'.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Hopefully, if you left details with Customer Services they will get it to you or back to the issuers fairly soon.moulitnc wrote:The problem is that the sender sends 100s of mails per day, and I am not sure how much they will be interested in tracking this particular mail. Re: Track mail from NRC
Hi,
Now the status says "RETURNED TO CO" and tracking point as "NATIONAL RETURN CENTRE". Could you please tell me what does this mean?
