I sent an item by Parcel Force and they delivered it to a neighbor. The intended recipient never got it and I had to refund him on ebay. I did this because I was sure that I would win the claim. They refused my claim because:
I have made enquiries with our delivery depot manager & driver and both have confirmed your parcel has been delivered on 24/07/2012 at 12:08 by our Edinburgh Depot and the recipient "P DOUDIE". The driver's handset GPS locator records the driver at the correct location and the driver confirmed that the parcel was delivered to you customers neighbour.
As the delivery has been completed in line with our delivery policy, I regret I am unable to continue with your claim for Disputed Delivery compensation. Please accept my apologies for any concern this matter has cause
But on their website it says:
What happens if my neighbour denies having my item, or mail left with a neighbour gets lost or damaged?
If any items are delivered to a neighbour as part of this trial and are subsequently lost or damaged, consumers will still be able to make a compensation claim in the normal way. Compensation arrangements for mail delivered to a neighbour are the same as those delivered directly to the recipient.
How can they tell me that I cannot make a claim because they have proof of delivery when it says on their website that I am entitled to make a claim in this situation, even if there is proof of delivery. Surely that's a contradiction. They haven't even given me the address of the neighbor and the guy I was sending to has never even heard of a P Doudie.
Why should I lose £120, I didn't do anything wrong. I paid the RM to deliver to somebody and they gave it to someone else. Surely that should lose out.
Anyone know what I can do.

Parcelforce are not part of the delivery to neighbour trial.
They have their own terms and conditions.
http://www.parcelforce.com/help-informa ... s-carriage" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2.2 In respect of UK deliveries, if there is no-one present at the address then:
2.2.1 Parcelforce Worldwide may at its discretion attempt to deliver the Consignment to an alternative address being either:
(i) a neighbouring address; or
(ii) a local Post Office branch, where it can be collected during the next 16 days; and
2.2.2 if the Consignment is delivered to an alternative address, a Customer Contact Card will be left at the specified address which has been completed with sufficient details to enable the Recipient to recover the Consignment; and
2.2.3 the Customer agrees that such delivery shall constitute delivery to the address specified as the delivery address on the Consignment.

Thanks but that doesn't change anything. Why am I losing out?. What kind of company doesn't compensate for it's own mistakes. Also they didn't leave a card with the intended recipient. They can't just tell me they've left an item with someone we've never heard of and expect me to be alright with it.

You accepted their terms by buying postage from them.2.2 In respect of UK deliveries, if there is no-one present at the address then:

Re: Royal Mail Delivered to Neighbour and item is lost. Help
I mean to it doesn't change anything from my point of view. I still think I've been wronged. Can anyone honestly say I don't deserve to be compensated?. Why do they offer insurance if they don't cover you when they mess up.
Those terms don't even apply because he never left a card, do they keep copies of the cards they post through doors? Or any other evidence, if so it is a police matter because I will know who the theif is. If not, then they can't use those terms against me because they never left a card and have no evidence that they did.
As it stands right now they've left it with some random guy who the buyer has never heard of and we have no idea where he lives. How do they expect me to reclaim this parcel?

How much do you trust the buyer?MrYeas wrote:As it stands right now they've left it with some random guy who the buyer has never heard of and we have no idea where he lives. How do they expect me to reclaim this parcel?
From personal experience it's unusual for the driver not to leave a card.
I'm not saying it is fraudulent but you can understand that it is possible and Parcelforce have to protect themselves from that.

I'm a bit confused as to why you refunded your buyer?
did you buy directly from Parcelforce?
