a company sent me a freepost envelope so I can mail something to them, but the envelope is damaged, the address is like FREEPOST RSTS-XXXX-XXXX and a postcode, now can I hand write the freepost code and the address on a new envelope and send it as normal?

just out of interest can someone explain how the freepost codes work? does a company have to pay for each code and would a letter get to the right place with just the code or is the address necessary? in the past, a call centre has told me to just write FREEPOST (no code) over the address and the company would pick up my letter and pay for it, they received it in 2 days. so why bother with the code at all?

Yes - just make sure the code is correct.

The address is always necessary to be honest. The Code is not as important thats just an indication of which account is paying for it, however, it will speed up the accounting process if the code is on the envelope. The reason is that the business does not pay as each envelope arrives, but pays by account.

But there are different types of FREEPOST address :
Most include the name, FREEPOST code and postcode but others that pay a higher rate are just FREEPOST and a word
