Compensation changes?

Post by Viggenmort »

Good morning all,

I've just got back from the post office where i was told something rather unexpected.
There was a new gentleman in there who told me "did you know that proof of postage no longer covers the item, only the cost of postage. If you want it properly covered you should send it recorded" I explained that i didnt know, hadn't seen any announcement (i'd expect that sort of change to make some headlines) and indeed the website still maintains proof of postage covers the post and up to £46 compensation dependent on the item.
He then told me they so rarely update the website. What happened is now that royal mail and the post office are separate one employs the other so class each other as a different carrier so will not compensate on the others loss.
Right next to him was a member of staff who has been there since it opened and didnt bat an eyelid when i was told this revelation. I am now home and neither website seems to have any information about this.

So my question is ...
Has the situation changed and royal mail/post office failed to update their websites or provide any real notification of said changes, thus leaving a can of worms for what they say they do and what might actually be the case?
OR
Is this just one of those 'accidental' misinformed occasions which might get people to spend more money on postage?

Recently a number of folks have been complaining about the amount of time wasted whilst staff try to sell them home, car, life insurance and all manner of other stuff and also the number of times they have been told something is too heavy or charged more than expected.

Is there anyone who can confirm the changes?
Many thanks for your time and have a great day all .

To change the compensation process and rates they would need to get Ofcom or its sucessors approval. In March they did indeed change the process but it doesn't seem to have affected the specific product you asked about.
