Possible SD surcharged by Revenue Protection? "P6302"

Post by shipmaster122 »

I got a medium-sized box today (47x36x20cm) which was a Next Day Special paid at a Post Office.

I noticed when I received the item that a small resealable sticky pouch was slapped on with "Special Delivery Next Day" at the top, and "OVERSIZE ITEM - P6302" at the bottom, and the pouch had been ripped open.
I don't have much knowledge of RM, but my first guess is that Revenue Protection have gone and surcharged it for it's size? No mention of any surcharge upon it being delivered though..

I do get on well with my postie (he's the packet driver really  ), do you think he has opened the pouch and binned the surcharge to do me a favor?

Is it even possible for something paid for at the PO (the staff should know to check, right?) to be surcharged on delivery?!

Just had a look at the Special Delivery page on RM's site.

"The maximum dimensions of a rectangular item are 610mm x 460mm x 460mm, and the maximum length of a rolled item is 900mm."

The dimensions of this box don't seem to exceed the dimensions or weight..

Now i'm thinking the pouch could be nothing to do with a surcharge, and just have been used as a pouch for a label (maybe destination MC or something?)..

Without actually seeing the pouch its difficult to say why it would have been ripped open, or even if it was just damaged in transit. However if it had been surcharged as far as I know you would not have received the item, but would have got a small grey card to advise you of an underpayment.

To be honest it sounds possible that the label(pouch) has fallen off something else and a postie thinks it has come from yours so stuck it "back" - I would put it down to experience and leave it at that. :Very Happy

No, it's very unlikely it was underpaid. The 'P6302 OVERSIZED ITEM' pouches are used to enclose the P471CT destination label and the computer printed tracking details from outward Mail Centre to inward Delivery Office but only for Special Deliveries that are 'oversized', or too big, for the usual greem mail bags. :Very Happy Nothing at all to do with Revenue Protection. :Very Happy
The only underpaid Special Deliveries I've noticed have had the red '9am' Special Delivery labels on but only meter franked postage for '1pm' i.e. about £5 each not about £15 each, but thtey got through to the Delivery Office unnoticed.

As LL said, it's just for RM internal SD tracking, don't worry about it.

It all makes sense now.. I did wonder what happened to items that are too big for the sacks.

Thanks for clearing it up, now I can rest peacefully! :Very Happy

Haha, good to hear a bit of humor! Plenty of it here.

It's just dawned on me, what if WE have to send something too large to fit in the sacks? We don't have a york, so what would we do? Would we have to mark it up with a destination label?.. :hmmmm

No, that's not done until the outward Mail Centre. :Very Happy
