the DUN note lists the barcode(s) for the items in the bag
so this DUN note is scanned and then the items inside scanned to tally with that
when the bag comes without one then its an unknown bag and is scanned as such to show why a DUN note wasn't scanned

All the Special Delivery items come with a sheet of paper from the Mail Centre that looks like a till receipt, which the person in the Delivery Office has to check against what they've actually received. They scan the barcode at the top of the "receipt" aka the DUN and it's all meant to tally with the audit trail.

If the MC have had problems and haven't been able to issue a DUN or it's gone AWOL for whatever reason, the DO can't scan the SD items in until a barcode is scanned to tell the system what it is scanning. So they have a book with barcodes in where they can scan one that says (as stated) MISSING DUN and then the name of the office that the scanning gun is registered to.

Am I missing something with my Special sent today?..

Here is the tracking status:
It's on its way
We have received your item and expect to deliver it before the guaranteed time on 16/12/11. If you have purchased Saturday guarantee, your delivery will be guaranteed on Saturday

Why is it that your status shows dates and times and mine doesn't? Feeling left out..

It can depend on when the data is downloaded from the "guns" used to scan the items and also whether the RM IT systems are working properly at the moment. Given all the other problems being reported, I'd say you were lucky to get that far!

Although i haven't got a tracking number i guess it's the bollox?
One to remember i guess.
Thread bookmarked.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Just to add, even though it tells you where you parcel was last scanned, even if this is somewhere like aberdeen at 2.30 in the morning, that doesnt mean it wont be delivered at 7.30 the same day in cornwall etc, royal mail use a lot of aeroplanes to shift stuff in the middle of the night so it could move the whole length of the country in just a few hours, that track and trace site is good if you know how to interpret it, but sometimes you can be given a little too much information

Unknown bag missing dun TWICE NOW... I have gotten this code twice now. First time was at the beginning of May this year... Reached Heathrow and had code unknown bag missing dun. It has NEVER moved further than this from that position, when I called I was told 20 business days, which is at the end of this week before I can file a claim. It NEVER made its destination. Second packet was sent since I could not get anything to my delivery point from the previous packet. Second packet was sent 1st of June 2015, now we are in day two and it has reached Heathrow again... and AGAIN "unknown bag missing dun" My luck can NOT be this bad... Ive got someone completely angry that the last packet hasnt been received, and again, I am faced with this code... Royal mail can NOT be doing this to me TWICE?! I may end up having to contact my lawyers... This is actually giving my business a bad name and negative feedback which is HURTING my business!!!
